Practical information for your studio session
This page covers the simple, useful details many parents like to know before a session.
If you’d like a fuller picture of what the experience feels like for your child, you can also visit:
How sessions usually work
Sessions are relaxed and gently guided, with time for your child to settle in, warm up, and build confidence before the camera becomes the focus.
We create a range of images during the session, with breaks whenever needed, and follow your child’s energy on the day rather than forcing a strict schedule.
After the session, you’ll view your photographs at home in a private online gallery and choose your favourites in your own time.
There’s no need to overthink outfits.
Simple dancewear photographs beautifully, and many families bring a few favourite pieces for variety.
Things that work well-
Some leotards- black/white but some colours are good too.
Two piece sets can be useful, again black, white and colours are all good.
Anything lyrical- dresses, skirts and tutus can be great- we have some skirts, shirts and practice tutus as well for you to borrow.
If your child dances in different styles, you’re welcome to bring options – but nothing special is required for the session to work well.
If you’re unsure, you’re always welcome to ask beforehand.
We also have a small selection of studio pieces available if needed.
What to bring
Visiting the studio
Location
The studio is based in Abbess Roding, Essex (CM5 0JS).
Full directions are provided after booking.
Parking
Plenty of free parking is available on site, close to the studio entrance.
Changing facilities
Dancers have their own private changing room with make up mirror.
Parents and guardians also have their own facilities.
Can parents stay?
Yes – parents are very welcome to stay during the session, we do need anyone under 18 to be accompanied by an adult please.
Some older dancers prefer a little space once they’ve settled in, which is absolutely fine too. We follow whatever feels most comfortable for your child.
Refreshments
Tea , coffee , water and soft drinks are available at the studio, and families are welcome to bring snacks or drinks if they wish.
After the session
Following your visit, your images are carefully edited and uploaded to a password-protected online gallery.
You’ll receive a link to view everything at home, without any pressure to decide immediately.
Galleries are available for two weeks, which most families find is the perfect balance — enough time to choose calmly, but not so long that life gets busy and the decision is delayed or forgotten.
If you ever need a little extra time, just let us know.
Most families find this approach makes the whole process feel calm and unhurried.
+Do we need to bring any clothing?
Yes! Bring dancewear- leotards, shorts/crops, lyrical dress/shirt. Tutus, pointe shoes etc, and anything funky for a different look- boots/trainers, knee socks, legwarmers, jackets etc even fashion clothing items can look great. We do have an extensive wardrobe that can be borrowed as well!
+Can we watch?
Yes definitely! Its part of the fun and helps the dancer relax. Plus we have to have a parent/guardian in the building anyway. Teenagers can be a bit self conscious so sometimes making a cup of tea in the kitchen area can give them a bit of distance.
+Where do the dancers get changed?
Dancers have their own changing room we have our own facilities too. Thats your space, I don't go in unless invited if you are in there.
+Whereabouts are you?
We are in Abbess Roding, Essex, CM5 0JS exact address given upon booking
+Are you easy to find and where do I park?
The postcode takes you just up the road from the entrance to the farm, you will receive full instructions and a photo of the entrance gate after you book. Parking is nice and safe in the yard outside the studio.
+Is there anywhere to get food and drink?
We have free tea and coffee and a fridge with cold drinks and you are welcome to help yourself. Bring your own snacks and food, there's nowhere close to get snacks.
+What happens after the shoot?
I will go through the images, crop and edit where necessary and upload them to a private gallery. You can view the photos and purchase collections online.
+How much are the photos?
Your session is designed to be a relaxed, confidence-boosting experience first and foremost — creating beautiful, meaningful images that reflect your child at this stage of their journey.
After the shoot, you’ll receive a private online gallery to view your images in your own time and choose the ones you truly love to keep.
Collections are: 5 images – £395, 20 images – £495, 30 images – £595, All images – £795
Most families choose a collection once they’ve seen their gallery, and there’s never any pressure to buy. Some fall in love with just a few favourites, while others choose their full story — it’s completely your decision.
If you’re joining us through Register to Win, you’ll also receive £100 studio credit to use towards any collection.
“I was really apprehensive about taking Pippa for a photoshoot, she had only just turned 6 and was very much at the start of her dance journey due to being in and out of lockdowns. Upon arrival we were greeted by jon in they most welcoming manner, straight away all my anxieties were eased, jon was able to get Pippa to engage and work hard to ensure he got they best pictures. I've never seen my wild child so calm, she had they best time and still goes on about how amazing her time was with jon. The photos were incredible and really showcased Pippa to the best of her abilities, forever grateful for the opportunity xxx” Shannon Leathley and Pippa T
