Who your child is with

When parents bring their child to my studio, they’re trusting me with more than photographs.

They’re trusting me with confidence. With vulnerability. And with an important stage in their child’s life that will never quite come again.

That responsibility is never taken lightly.

Every session is built around helping young people feel safe, seen and supported — whether they arrive excited, nervous, shy, or unsure of themselves.

Behind the camera

Photographing young dancers and performers with care, patience and respect — for over 14 years.

How I work with young people

Many of the children and teenagers I photograph care deeply about doing well. Some are quietly confident. Others are very hard on themselves.

My role is not to demand perfection.

It’s to create an environment where they feel able to try, to relax, to make mistakes, and to discover what they’re capable of — without fear of judgement.

That means:

  • working calmly and at their pace

  • offering guidance without pressure

  • listening to their ideas

  • allowing breaks when needed

  • and never rushing the process

Confidence grows best when it isn’t forced.

Experience families rely on

I’ve specialised in dance and performance photography for over 14 years, and worked as a professional photographer for much longer than that.

During that time I’ve photographed thousands of young dancers, gymnasts and performers — from beginners taking their first steps, to those training seriously and preparing for auditions or professional opportunities.

My studio in Essex was designed specifically for this work: a private, spacious environment with professional lighting, creative setups, and room for young performers to move, breathe, and feel comfortable.

Families regularly travel from across the UK for an experience that feels thoughtful, unhurried, and centred around the child rather than the camera.

A little about me

I live in Hertfordshire with my family and have always been drawn to creative work — long before I ever picked up a camera.

Photography has been part of my life for decades, not as something I fell into, but as something I genuinely care about.

What still matters most to me is simple:

That the young people who walk into my studio leave feeling a little taller, a little braver, and a little more comfortable in themselves than when they arrived.

A gentle next step

The Experience

“Been twice to Jon with my daughter Erin. Jon is the most amazing photographer, and is so friendly and welcoming. The studio is out of this world, so many scenes, props, costumes to make use of. Erin never wants to leave when she is there. Jon is so patient and works with you to get the most incredible shots. I've got to say that since going to Jon we will never go anywhere else for professional photos x” Natalie D
